The Passion With Fashion

By California

Home Icon

From the runways of Milan to Mumbai, fashion is a big deal. Everywhere. Our identity isn’t composed of one single thing, it is ever changing, and grows as we grow. As we enter different stages into our life, we go through a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences, and we may not always like what life may offer to us, but one thing that will always be uniquely yours, will be your sense of style.

You can be goth, you can artsy, you can be preppy, you can be anything you want. There is no such thing as rules in fashion, in fact the best lookbooks to date are from the hearts, so use that in your carts. From a young age I was sparkly and full of the Hannah Montana fananza. I looked like a reject Alex russo. I slowly transferred into my coquette pastel era, with more lace on me than I had hair. Then came the Gap era, then the prep era, the emo, then the gothic era.

Truth is , I change my mind a lot, and while I'm not proud of every single look I sported, I wouldn't change a thing. Seeing each style gave me happiness for where I was in life, it made me intune with who I was. I didn’t care about what other people thought, because fashion is meant to make you feel like you are properly being represented. The only thing that makes outfits look bad, is when you don't believe that it’s showing who you really are. Never apologize or adhere to the trendy looks if that is not you, if it is, amazing, if it’s not, then you have a whole world awaiting you. You can dress based on your ethnic background, or your taste in music, artistic pieces, nature, anything that you love or find important. The world of fashion is never ending, there is an infinite amount of aesthetics to choose from, and all you need is a little bit of research, this blog, and your own permission to be happy and free. Don't let anybody stop you, you're unique, beautiful and special. You rule.

Dont Conform To The Uniform!

By California

I think it's safe to say that school is both a blessing and curse at the same time. None of us like waking up at Godforsaken times to hear a 3 hour lecture on the pythagorean theorem, when I can barely figure out how much change I should give to the cashier. Despite the lovable hatred, Education is a privilege that none of us should take lightly. Schools are a place for learning and wonder, it's also a place for self discovery through opportunities of expression. I love getting up in the morning to do my makeup and putting on a little outfit that makes me feel like a goth barbie, and i'm doing that not because I value my looks over the education itself, but because I feel most comfortable when im being who I am, and presenting myself to everyone saying "This is who I am, and i'm proud of myself!" Uniforms are like water being added to a candle of personal freedom. They have been blitzing creativity.

Dont Conform To The Uniform!

......Rebuking the Uniform Quo!

By California

There is a false notion going around that Uniforms help manage the bullying and harassment of students who come from a lower income family. The theory behind it is, the kids who come from wealth will be dressed up in costly clothing, and the kids who don't share that same lifestyle will be teased for their wardrobe. Uniforms are supposed to cause equilibrium among the student body, but the price tags on these blazers are speak far from their intended message. Uniforms have come to a point where they cost more than textbooks, shirts costing upwards of $150 dollars for being embroidered with the school logo. Let's just call it what it is, and say that schools don't care about an equal student body, they care about making money. If they truly meant what they preach, the uniforms would be free or at a reasonable price. The up mark of uniform pricing further alienates affected students, by making them feel like as if they aren't enough to simply attend.

Another commonly brought argument on the pro-uniform side, is the bullying that comes with the freedom of wearing your own clothes, when they may not be "up to par" with the high standards of judgemental teens. While I do admit that this argument is a valid concern amongst everyone involved, introducing a uniform will not eliminate the cruel words of prepubescent angst. Uniforms wont look the same on everyone, forcing these students to wear clothing that was made to fit one body types, will completely obliterate the self esteem of everyone who doesn't fit that type. It's more than uncomfort, it's reinforcing an outdated image and standard in how bodies are "supposed" to look. Uniforms can lead to body dismorphia, and even more ridicule from ignorant classmates that sadly, cannot be avoided. The point of clothing is to make you feel confident and like yourself, when someone feels confident, they are able to complete their daily tasks and exceed because they aren't self-concious on how they are presented. Wearing clothes that fit YOUR body, and YOUR style is a good for your mental health AND work production. We have fought the battle of bullying in school for decades, slowly but surely we are exterminating this horrid phenomenon. Bullying and teasing will sadly live on, but is it better to teach your students to hide behind conformity, or to preach acceptance through diversity of styles and inner souls. There is only one correct answer, and I think you know which side to fight for.

Dont Conform To The Uniform!

By California

.......The Importance of Fashion Freedom!

In our day and age, we have countless platforms to unleash our inner demons and let our true self be known to a large, or small group. While this is an amazing development in our society, its not a substitute to the art of fashion, and it's psychological benefits. A uniform is a great example of my point but this also applies to a wardrobe that isnt managed by yourself, or a wardrobe that doesnt represent who you are and what you like. When being forced to wear something that you despise, you'll find yourself squirming, keeping your head down, and psyching yourself out. You dont want people to see you wearing what you are, because it creates a picture of who you are, when it's all fake. You don't want to be associated with your clothing because it isnt associated with you. The first thing people see when they look at you, is how you present yourself. When people look at the clothing that you wear, they asses what you are like as a person. Obviously there is more to each person than how they dress, but it's difficult to carry signs on our heads that tell everyone who you are. Wearing a good outfit will push the image you desire, and boost your confidence to socialize to your best abilities. Uniforms strip all of that, it is directly attacking individuality and self expression. How are we supposed to respect schools if they dont respect us?

Clothing also holds significance in showing your history, what you've been through. Every Culture has traditional clothing that is a beautiful demonstration of their values and lifestyle. These items of clothing can hold similarities and major diffrences, but we still find them all beautiful regardless because of what lies inbetween the seams. There are so many symbols, patterns and hidden meanings behind every outfit, that show what each person has experienced. We need to embrace who we are, because taking that step will give your soul a chance to live free. It's a gateway to inner peace, and creating relationships. So stop the war on fashion and live with passion!

Autism is a Cool Thing!

By Hugo

I think we need to accept autistic brains as all brains, including identical twins, are different.

I share with people a lot of the time that I am autistic. It is relevant when talking about your childhood.

People think autsim should be cured. I think we should not cure autism. It can only be cured through a brain transplant and that makes people clones. Instead, I think we need to educate people about autism, because if people understand me it makes me feel that autism is normalized. Autism is a difference in brains and that's alright.

There is a stigma, sometimes schools pull people with autism out of class. But I am a cool guy. My friends say I am a cool guy. So, why are well behaved students getting pulled out of classroom? Smaller classroom sizes and smaller schools for a more inclusive environment which allows for autistic students to be included in mainstream classes. Students need to be included not excluded. Even though I had a good experience with really nice teachers and was well behaved being pulled out still separates students from others. A large inclusive school is impossible and making a large inclusive school is like trying to make it to the Andromeda galaxy which is 152,000 light years away.

A lot of acceptance is an amazing thing.

Many International school students are third culture kids (TCK). So some people struggle in school, struggle in where they live, and have conflict with their family. The definition of TCK is categories of where you live, about your lifestyle, and parent’s culture.

For example, the basketball player Kobe Bryant, who was born in the state of Pennsylvania but grew up in Italy is an example of TCK.

The main point I want to talk about is that each person some kind of belongings

When people hear about this question, some people may think about the place they were from. However, the belongings can be anything. In my school, my teacher asked about what is your belongings and there was various answers such as my room, youtube , tatami , and old friends.

Third Culture Kids face many types of struggles. For example, person A is born in America and their parents are Americans but grew up in Japan. Therefore many people may think that he can speak English even though person A can only speak Japanese.
